Teaching young children about human diversity is all about giving them a more complete view of the world around them. Learning that their experience is not the only experience offers children a chance to develop empathy and understanding for people and places that are different from their own. As a district, Bainbridge Island school district has made equity a goal and as parents, we can support the school by talking to our children about the human diversity we see here and experience on and off our island.

You can help our children by taking a moment to watch a couple of the 25 Mini Films for Exploring Race, Bias and Identify With Students from the New York Times. We also recommend reading the following books with them: Family Book by Todd Parr, All Are welcome by Alexandra Penfold, and Strictly No Elephants by Lisa Mantchev.

If you want to learn more please join us the multicultural advisory Council meetings the first Tuesday of every month.
